This term our topic is ‘Trash and Treasure’

Here we are experiencing a little of what it must be like to walk on trash. We looked at images of children working and living on dumpsites and, in our writing, tried to empathise with their situation.
A group of Y10 girls from St Ivo school came to deliver a session on smoking called Kick Ash. We took part in lots of discussions and learnt a lot about its harmful effects.
This term we had a day of training from a company called ‘ Fruit to Suit’ where we learnt how to set up our own Healthy Tuck Shop business. We had written persuasive letters to our HSA to ask for the money to cover the training, which they very kindly agreed to fund. Here are pictures of us during our training and sampling some of the delicious snacks.
Just before half term we launched our business – ‘Tutti Fruity Tuck Shop’ with a letter to parents and a launch assembly.
Here we are on our first day of trading which was very exciting and very successful.

On Wednesday 21st February, we enjoyed a visit from ‘History off the Page’ who gave us a very interactive and exciting day of activities linked to our topic – The Ancient Greeks.
Here we are all dressed up and ready to go.
There were so many activities, it was difficult to choose. We had the opportunity to make a mosaic, make a charm bracelet, make oil lamps from clay and burn oil extracted from olives, paint frescoes and pots.
Here we are totally absorbed in our work.
We began our Greek pots in the first week of term using a balloon and card to create the frame. After several layers of paper-maché and paint they are now complete. They look amazing and we are really proud of all our hard work.
Using our weapons made in DT after researching Hoplites, we battled our way to victory. Later, we wrote in role as a soldier on the battlefield and tried to describe the experience and the emotions they might have felt.
